“I will express” by Veena Nankani

A poem about the necessity of sharing life’s struggles – mental or otherwise.

I will express myself
I will express my past
I will express my pain
I will express it all.

I will express my sadness
I will express my disappointments
I will express my grief
I will express my loss.

I will express my hunger
I will express my anger
I will express my thirst
I will express my hurt.

I will express my guilt
I will express my faults
I will express my shame
I will express my apologies.

I will express my expectations
I will express my principles
I will express my boundaries
I will express my discipline.

I will express my change
I will express my path
I will express my lessons
I will express my gratitude.

I will express it all
I will release it all
I will let it fall.

(I cannot emphasize enough A) The importance of expressing ones pain, struggles and difficulties with trusted friends & family. Prolonged unshared internal struggles usually lead to an overwhelming sense of isolation, disproportion and dysfunction. B) That there is no shame in asking for and receiving professional help with mental health struggles which have progressed from prolonged sadness to a cloud of gloom which saturates every moment. Some problems simply cannot and should not be tackled alone. If you feel it, express it. If it consumes, get help)
