“Greater than me” by Veena Nankani

A poem about knowing your self worth, your value and your position in society.

No street sweeper is greater than me.
No plumber is greater than me.
No electrician is greater than me.
No architect is greater than me.

No mathematician is greater than me.
No scientist is greater than me.
No engineer is greater than me.
No pilot is greater than me.

No teacher is greater than me.
No professor is greater than me.
No lawyer is greater than me.
No orator is greater than me.

No politician is greater than me.
No leader is greater than me.
No guru is greater than me.
No priest is greater than me.

No artist is greater than me.
No painter is greater than me.
No singer is greater than me.
No actor is greater than me.

No businessman is greater than me.
No billionaire is greater than me.
No monarch is greater than me.
No person is greater than me.

I am inferior to no one.
I am superior to no one.
I am equal to everyone.
Everyone is equal to me.

(Admiration is different from adoration. Don’t confuse the two. The latter is idolatry. Worship no human being.)
